Shipping fast without breaking things

Speed and stability aren't opposites. Small batches, good defaults, and reversible changes let you move quickly and safely.

The otterdev team

The teams that ship fastest aren’t reckless - they’ve simply made mistakes cheap to recover from. When any change can be reverted in seconds, moving quickly stops being scary.

Ship in small batches

A small change is easy to review, easy to test, and easy to undo. Ten small releases beat one big-bang launch every time, because each one teaches you something before the next.

  • Keep pull requests small and single-purpose.
  • Automate the boring checks so humans review the interesting parts.
  • Make rollback a one-click action, not a fire drill.

Good defaults beat discipline

Relying on people to remember the right thing fails under pressure. Bake the right thing into the tooling - formatting, tests, previews - and correctness becomes the path of least resistance.

Do that, and “fast” and “safe” stop competing.
